US service member killed by enemy gunfire in Afghanistan

Another U.S. service member has been killed in Afghanistan.

The service member was killed “as a result of enemy small arms fire,” according to a NATO Resolute Support Afghanistan statement on Tuesday.


An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

Per Department of Defense policy, the name of the service member will not be released for 24 hours after next of kin notification.

A week earlier, U.S. Army Ranger Sgt. Cameron A. Meddock was also killed by small arms fire in Afghanistan.

Meddock, 26, was wounded during combat on Jan. 13 in Badghis Province’s Jawad district. He was transported to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany where he died on Jan. 17.
